Celebrating the launch of Status

In New York City's vibrant Lower East Side, beehiiv hosted a glitzy event celebrating the launch of Status, attracting the crème de la crème of the media world.

On Thursday evening, in New York City's vibrant Lower East Side, beehiiv hosted a glitzy event at the swanky cocktail lounge TIGRE to celebrate the launch of Status.

When we first went to sea three months ago, there was a great deal of consternation and doubt cast over whether we would find success.

How would we fare against our more-established competitors? Was there room for another media-focused newsletter? Would we actually be able to deliver on our promise of high-impact reporting?

We aren’t yet 100 days old and those types of questions are no longer being wondered about. Having delivered a steady stream of scoop-driven reporting and no-holds-barred analysis, we are confident that we have quickly emerged as the authoritative source for media news.

Of course, no success would be possible without the incredible support of readers, who have shown a hunger for an unafraid publication covering the media industry that is not beholden to a giant corporation or billionaire. It was a privilege on Thursday night to be able to thank some of the Status community in person for backing us early on.

At the event, which attracted the crème de la crème of the media world, our publishing platform beehiiv also announced a multi-million dollar commitment to supporting independent journalism. It’s called the beehiiv Media Collective.

Members of the collective, the Tyler Denk-led company said, will receive a suite of benefits and services, including: pre-publication legal review support, $1 million of defamation insurance, unlimited access to Getty Images, a monthly healthcare stipend, and more. Starting a publication from scratch is challenging. Not only is it daunting to leave the safety net of a major media company, but there are a number of logistical obstacles that must immediately be attacked to get off the ground.

The commitment from beehiiv will make the path toward independence that much easier for journalists seeking to embark on their own journey. At a time when some are shying away from journalism, they’re leaning into it. And that makes me proud to partner with them.
