The budget trimming foreshadows a smattering of job cuts that are sure to take place across the entire news industry over the next several months.

The tremors of looming cuts are starting to be felt at 30 Rock.
This week, a small group of employees were notified that their unit would be absorbed into others as part of a restructuring, I'm told. Most of the employees will be reassigned or encouraged to apply to open positions. But a handful of people — in the single digits — will ultimately lose their jobs.
A spokesperson for NBC News declined to comment.
While this week's layoffs are minor, especially given the sheer size and scope of the NBCU News Group portfolio, they hint at larger cuts surely on the horizon at the Cesar Conde-run division, which has largely avoided shrinking as its rivals have implemented more painful layoffs.
