The Status WCHD kickoff party. (Status)
On Thursday evening, against the backdrop of Washington’s buzzing Wharf neighborhood, Status hosted a packed kickoff event ahead of the White House Correspondents’ Dinner. Held at Fish Shop—a highly anticipated new restaurant opening to the public this Tuesday—the night brought together the crème de la crème of the media world: leading reporters, top communications officials, agents, and influential power players across the industry.
But this wasn’t just a party for its own sake. In an era when press freedoms face mounting threats, we came together to celebrate—and defend—the First Amendment. Throughout the evening, guests mingled over cocktails and sampled hors d’oeuvres passed by servers.
The energy in the room was palpable: a vibrant gathering of people bound by a shared commitment to protecting journalism. As a small but symbolic gesture, we handed out limited-edition Status T-shirts emblazoned with a clear message: the First Amendment remains non-negotiable. You can purchase the shirt until Sunday night and 50% of the proceeds will go to the Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press legal defense fund.
Below, we’re proud to share a glimpse of the evening—a celebration not of ourselves, but of the essential freedoms we are all charged with defending.
